A quick update to an earlier post.  Today, Yahoo News has a sad but interesting story regarding the fate of nearly 1200 General Motors dealers.

The long and short of it is this:  As a dealer who is able to keep the doors open, you need to start incorporating the strategies laid out in one of my previous posts that spoke about closed dealerships equal lost and wasted search traffic.

In previous life, I spoke with numerous dealers who were making an odd strategic decision.  They would openly tell me they didn’t want to target keywords for certain geographic areas.  That is to say, they didn’t want to target a particular town or city because they had a gentleman’s agreement with a dealer in that area.  Wow!  This disturbed me for a few different reasons.  Let’s look beyond the possible market manipulation for a second and talk about good ol’ fashion American competition and survival of the fittest.

At first I didn’t even know where to start with this one.  So I figured I’d have to create a whole new category affectionately called “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot”.

So the British Government is going to get into the SEO game.  From an SEO point of view this raises many questions.  Hell, I don’t even know where to start.  Do we discuss the “black hat” route?  Should we discuss Google’s response to the British Government’s obvious attempt in “gaming the system” which is a violation in their TOS.  How is Google going to really determine quality content from b.s. spam?

This is going to take some time to hash out and watch.  I’m sure we’re all in for a good ride.
